pretty grocery lists

I know. I know. Grocery shopping is not a fun activity. But with one of these, it can be a little less tedious and a little more fun.

husband's art prints: now available on minted.com

When we were walking through the streets of Thailand, Matt would suddenly stop in front of a random weathered wall and snap a picture. At the beginning I was thinking: what in the world is he doing? But as soon as I started seeing the photographs, I noticed that he was not seeing every day wear and tear. He was seeing an elegant canvas of weathered texture and rich color.

So when I saw that Minted was looking for art print submissions, I knew that Matt needed to submit these photographs. I mean, how could he not? They were amazing! So off he went. He selected his favorites and we packaged everything up and sent it to Minted. Then we waited. And waited. And waited some more. Eventually the wait was over and we found out that Minted selected three of the photographs. THREE! Just one would have been a big win, thousands of artists submit designs, so three was a huge success.

In case you are not familiar with Minted, they crowd-source design and art from a global community of independent designers, then sells the best designs as fine invitations, art prints, home office supplies, party decor, and business cards to name a few. Minted produces and sells the winning designs and then they pay the designer a commission on every sale. Pretty neat concept, right?

Now that you are as psyched and excited as us, I'll share the three winning photographs. Which by the way are now available for purchase. Wink. Wink.

This is a photograph of a temple wall in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

This is a photograph of a shopping cart panel at the Night Bazaar in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

This is a photograph of the side of a long tail boat in Koh Phi Phi, Thailand.

These can be purchased in a variety of sizes. From as small as 5x7 to as big as 44x60. You also have the option of buying it framed. Ohhhh the possibilities.

designs by dylcia: a hand lettered save the date

For this weeks post I wanted to share a save the date I worked on a while back. It was for one of my really good friends and I'm so happy with they way it turned out. I just love when friends have the same style as you and trust your vision.

The wedding is this weekend and I C-A-N-N-O-T wait. It's going to be so much fun. Plus, since the wedding is out of town, it will also be a nice weekend away with the husband and friends.

I also did her wedding invitation but I haven't had a chance to shoot that yet, so I will be posting that in the coming weeks. I have to keep you coming back for more, right?

Now that you are blown away by so much cuteness, let me explain why I love this destination wedding save the date.

1. It is interactive. Your guests can take the actual invitation and use it as a travel tag.

2. It brings to life the excitement of a destination wedding. You want your guests to be pumped that you are not having an ordinary wedding. True, it might be more expensive for them to attend your wedding, but they will be on vacation!!! Which means that everyone will be relaxed and ready to party. And I'm talking from experience.

3. It's budget friendly. For $29, you can get a printable PDF and print it yourself. But if you don't want to go through the hassle of doing it yourself, I can also print them for you for a fee (prices vary depending on the quantity).

4. It's as customizable as it gets. Not only will your names be on it (duh!), but you can change the colors and select which type of background you want. Cute little planes? A fun dotted map? Or an adorable pic? In addition, for a small fee, you can add text to the invitation if you want to add some more info. Like your travel agent's digits or accommodation details.

designs by dylcia: a save the date poem

I haven't shared some of my work in a couple of months. Unacceptable! So I wanted to break that cycle and show you this lovely save the date that I designed last year. When my client emailed me the specs of what she was thinking about, she mentioned the idea of the poem that you see on the invitation. She was thinking that it could go on the back of the postcard. But I loved the idea so much that I recommended that the poem should be the main focus of the save the date. Lucky enough, she agreed. Gotta love when that happens.

I really love this save the date because it is different and whimsical. It really represents the couple's personalities. And a huge bonus was that she got a lot of compliments from it. Always a good thing to hear.

If you are interested in a Save the Date like this one or have an idea in mind and want help bringing it to life, send me an email to designsbydylcia@gmail.com

designs by dylcia: thank you postcard

As promised, here is one of my latest designs. One of my friends is also obsessed with hand lettering so when she asked me to design a thank you postcard for her, we both agreed that it had to be hand lettered. Can't wait to work on more projects like this.

it's going to be a diy holiday

This year, I decided that I'm going to make all of our Christmas tree ornaments. It's a huge undertaking but I am up for the challenge. As you know, I have been obsessed with gold lately so that is obviously going to be one of the main colors. The other ones I am thinking of are red, white and craft. I also want to incorporate some hand lettering and glitter action. Will I love this or regret it? We will find out soon enough. Ha!
